Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Congress after party chief Mallikarjun Kharge advised his party to make only financially feasible promises to its state units.
Kharge reportedly made the comments amid reports that party-ruled states are facing financial problems in fulfilling some of their pre-poll announcements.
In a series of posts on his X handle using the hashtag #FakePromisesOfCongress, the Prime Minister attacked the grand old party, saying the people of India want development and progress.
The Prime Minister said, the Congress Party understands very well that it is easy to make unrealistic promises but it is difficult or impossible to implement them properly.
“In campaign after campaign, they make promises to the people that even they know they will never be able to keep. Now, they have been brutally exposed in front of the people!” He added.
Drawing attention to the states where Congress is in power today – Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana, Modi said, “The pace of growth and fiscal health is going from bad to worse. Their so-called guarantees are incomplete, which is a terrible betrayal of the people of these states. The victims of such politics are the poor, youth, farmers and women, who are not only deprived of the benefits of these promises, but also see their existing schemes weakened.
What did PM Modi say while attacking Congress?
-In Karnataka, instead of caring about development, Congress is busy in internal party politics and looting. Not only this, they are also going to withdraw the existing schemes.
—Government employees in Himachal Pradesh are not paid on time. Farmers in Telangana are waiting for the relaxation that was promised.
– Earlier, in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, they had promised some allowances, which were not implemented for five years. There are countless examples of how Congress works.
“The people of the country have to remain vigilant against the Congress-sponsored culture of fake promises! We recently saw how the people of Haryana rejected their lies and preferred a government that is stable, progress-oriented and work-oriented. There is a growing realization across India that a vote for Congress is a vote for non-governance, poor economy and unparalleled plunder,” Modi said.
However, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal rejected PM Modi’s comments. “We are implementing our promises. Whatever promise we made in Karnataka, we are implementing it and anyone can check it. What the Prime Minister said is wrong… Basically, the Indian government is not delivering what it promised… They are blaming us for not delivering. But from our side we are fulfilling our promises.”
Meanwhile, noting that the former Congress president often boasts of “khata-khat” (instant) money transfer, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad also jokingly asked whether Kharge had given his first ‘knowledge’ to Rahul Gandhi.
Claiming that party-run governments in states like Karnataka, Telangana and Himachal Pradesh face financial difficulties in fulfilling the guarantees given to the people, the former law minister says Kharge has realized that the Congress Should not make careless announcements.
