Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly Vijay Wadettiwar on Tuesday said that the sexual assault on two young women in Maharashtra’s Badlapur is bigger than the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar College and Hospital.
“Maharashtra has overtaken Uttar Pradesh” [Uttar Pradesh] In a video message, the Congress leader said, “The state has lagged behind in crimes against women. Law and order has collapsed in the state. After the attack on the doctor, allegations were levelled against the West Bengal government… This incident in Maharashtra is even bigger than that. No one will support such an incident (in Kolkata). The accused must be hanged. Conduct daily hearings, nothing else is important.”
‘Badlapur victim’s family had to wait for 11 hours’
He also alleged that the family of a girl who was sexually abused at a school in Badlapur, Maharashtra, was made to wait for 11 hours to lodge a complaint.
“A senior woman police officer made the victim’s family wait for 11 hours before filing an FIR because the school had links with people in power,” Wadettiwar said in a video message posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday.
Wadettiwar said, “This police officer is entirely responsible.” He also demanded the suspension of the woman police officer for “ignoring the matter”.
The incident of brutality against a three and a half year old girl in Badlapur has brought shame to Maharashtra. Information has been obtained by discussing this serious matter with Police Commissioner Dumbre.

Vadettiwar said the three-and-a-half-year-old girl and the four-year-old girl were tortured and when they went to the police station to lodge a complaint, they (the parents) had to wait for 11 hours.
He said, “Is there any sensitivity left? I spoke to the police commissioner and told him that the woman police officer responsible for this delay should be suspended immediately.”
#Watch | Chandrapur | On the Badlapur incident, Maharashtra LoP Vijay Wadettiwar said, “Maharashtra should be ashamed that such an incident has happened in the state. The law and order situation in the state is bad. We demand that the case should be heard quickly and the matter should be investigated within 3 months. pic.twitter.com/Z39KsrlOuP

“The trial of the case should be completed within three months and the accused should be hanged,” the opposition leader demanded.
Taking a dig at the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government’s much-publicised Ladki Behen scheme for women, he asked why the chief minister and deputy chief minister were silent on the present issue.
What are the Badlapur and Kolkata cases?
Two kindergarten girls were allegedly assaulted by a school attendant at Badlapur in Maharashtra’s Thane district last week. According to the complaint, he misbehaved with the girls in the school toilet, an official told news agency PTI.
The school management has suspended the principal, a class teacher and a female attendant over the incident. The state government on Tuesday ordered the suspension of three police officials, including a senior police inspector, for alleged negligence in investigating the sexual abuse of two girls.
Meanwhile, the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, West Bengal, sparked widespread outrage and protests in various cities, demanding justice and punishment for the accused. On August 9, 2024, a 31-year-old postgraduate doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College Hospital, who was on a 36-hour duty shift, was allegedly raped and murdered inside the hospital’s seminar room.
