As the temperature rises and summer sets in, it becomes important to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle and according to experts, Ayurveda, the ancient science of life, offers timeless wisdom to stay cool, hydrated and energised during the hot months. We asked some experts to share practical tips and advice on summer health that emphasise natural remedies and holistic practices to keep your body and mind in harmony and by adopting these Ayurvedic principles, you can live this season with ease and vibrancy.
In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Vidhwasu Gaur, an ayurvedic physician in Jaipur, explains that our vata increases in summers, leading to heat-related problems. “During summers, the body’s mucus reduces and vata increases due to the intense sunshine. It is best to eat sweet and easily digestible cereals and drink plenty of fluids. It is very good to drink roasted barley flour (sattu) mixed with sugar and water every day. It is also important to avoid alcohol during this season. Enjoy rasala (sweet yogurt), ragha (sweet and salty syrupy drink), sadava (fruit syrup) and paan (tamarind and jaggery water kept cool in an earthen pot). A sweet and sour paan made from raw mango, phalsa, dates, grapes or jamun with jaggery and tamarind is also beneficial,” he advised.
Keshav Agarwal, CEO of Canarma, emphasised the importance of using the power of nature to promote wellness during summers. He suggested, “Using hemp kumkumadi oil and hemp aloe vera gel can provide natural relief and help maintain balance. Rose water for body and face care is also beneficial to keep the skin cool and hydrated. For hair care, hemp hair oil is a great option, while hemp seed oil can be used as an edible oil to meet skin care and nutritional needs. These natural remedies effectively maintain overall health during the summer months.”
Vaibhav Jain, CEO of AyushBharat, shared practical tips to stay balanced in the summer season. He advised, “Since the temperature has reached above 50 degrees in some places this summer, it is important to avail the benefits of both Ayurveda and AYUSH treatments. Apart from staying hydrated, make sure you consume lots of Ayurvedic beverages like Triphala and Amla juice, which help you regain your inner coolness. Practice yoga for at least thirty minutes in the morning. Apply lots of aloe vera gel on your skin to protect the skin from the UV rays of the sun. Ayurvedic natural stuff should be a part of your diet; stay away from heavy and greasy food.”
In the summer months, it is important to stay hydrated, stay in the shade and incorporate Ayurvedic practices into your daily routine and experts insist that we can maintain a healthy and balanced body and mind by following Ayurvedic treatments and remedies. For a vibrant, cool and refreshing summer, follow Ayurvedic wisdom and stay indoors during peak heat hours, drink plenty of water and energise your body with seasonal, cooling foods to maintain your health and well-being.
