The first Test flight of its Eris Rocket by Space Startup Gilmer Space Technologies left the launch pad launched at the company’s Bowne Orbit Spaceport of about 1,000 km (620 mi) in the north -west of Brisbane on Wednesday morning. It flew for about 14 seconds, the company said in a statement.
The launch came after a delay of months, for a beginning in March before the date was pushed back several times in March with Gilmar space, one also includes a adjournment in May, as due to an issue with the payload fairing of the rocket.
“Space is difficult.” “SpaceX, rocket lab and others needed several test flights to reach the classroom. We have learned a tremendous amount that will go directly to improve our next vehicle, which is already in production.”
This is not uncommon for a new rocket to fail in its first launch attempt, and the three-phase Aris rocket was not carrying any satellite or other expensive cargo. Gilmar told Bloomberg News before the launch that success would be defined as lifting the launch pad.
Eris had a minimal payload consisting of a jar of vegmite, spreading thick black toasts that many Australians consider to be a national symbol.
Based on the Gold Coast, Queensland State, Gilmar Space launched its rocket program in 2015 and expected to be launched in early 2023. This pushed back the time as it was waiting for the regulator approval.
About 25-meter (82-foot) long rocket uses a hybrid liquid-solid propellent technology, a system that Gilmer Space says that is safe and cheaper than liquid or solid fuel that uses many other rockets.
The Australian Space Agency announced on 25 July that Gilmer received $ 5 million ($ 3.3 million) from the Australian government to accelerate the development of the rocket engine. The company also has support from investors including Blackbird Ventures and Queensland Investment Corporation.
Gilmer said, “We have a lot of investors who are interested in investing in the company.” “But they are clearly waiting to see what happens with the launch before they decide to invest.”
