Guwahati, Assam government’s initiative to train the state’s youth with foreign language skills was launched by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday with the first group learning Japanese language.

Sarma said the Chief Minister’s Foreign Language Initiative for Global Human Talent will enable the youth of the state to find employment opportunities in different parts of the world.
“Assam’s gateway to global careers launched the Chief Minister’s Foreign Language Initiative for Global Human Talent – a scheme that will empower the youth of Assam with foreign language skills and open doors to global working opportunities to make them economically stronger,” Sarma said in a post on X.
In the first phase, 180 youth will receive Japanese language training along with cultural training, job placement assistance and financial assistance, he said.
Sarma stressed that the initiative will “further deepen our strong India-Japan cooperation in various sectors and promote people-to-people ties between Assam and Japan”.
Congratulating the candidates, the Chief Minister said, “Thanks to ASEAN One and our other esteemed partners, this program will be run right here at the North East Skill Centre, Guwahati and will prepare our youth to make their mark in the globally renowned workplaces of Japan and boost their overall career prospects.”
He also said that the final cost of the course has been reduced significantly, with the Government of Assam and the Government of Japan bearing a major part of the expense.
Sarma said Japan has always been a “steadfast and all-weather friend” of India, adding that discussions were also underway to explore possible cooperation with other international partners.
The Chief Minister’s Office also said in a post on the social media site that the candidates “will undergo Japanese language training in the first batch through three international partners – ASEAN One Company Limited, Jessex Ventures LLP and Miko Career Partners Company Limited.”
It said the initiative aims to equip Assam’s youth with foreign language and workplace readiness skills to enhance employability in global sectors such as construction, nursing care and food service.
