Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra reached Majuli Island in Assam on Friday. On the second day of the yatra, the war of words intensified between Congress leaders in the state and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. On Friday, Jorhat police registered a case against some people associated with Congress’ ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra for alleged deviation from its original route.
On Friday, taking a dig at the “Miya Yatra”, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said he had asked Congress leaders “not to pass through Guwahati as it has medical colleges and hospitals “.
“If they want, we will allow an alternative route,” he said.
When further provoked by media personnel, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “If the Congress reaches Guwahati without permission, no case will be registered” because “I do not want to give them unnecessary headlines in the national media.”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, without identifying his “targets”, said a case would be registered later and the two “bad elements” who participated in the rally would be arrested 3-4 months after the Lok Sabha elections.
On Friday morning, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh alleged that Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma is trying to derail the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in the state as he is nervous of the people’s reaction.
Party general secretary Ramesh insisted that the yatra, however, would continue with its program in the state for the next six days as per the schedule.
“The Assam CM can abuse and defame, he can threaten and intimidate but we are not afraid. He is clearly troubled by the widespread impact of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which despite his sustained efforts “It will continue for the next 6 days in Assam.” To derail it,” Jairam Ramesh said.
Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra started from Manipur on January 14 and will end in Mumbai on March 20 or 21.
Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is going to cover a distance of 6,713 kilometers in 67 days passing through 110 districts of 15 states. In Assam, it will continue till January 25, covering 833 km in 17 districts.
