New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has not announced an online counseling program for undergraduate agricultural courses even after 50 days after the CUET-OG 2025 results were declared on 4 July. The delay has worried thousands of candidates about losing an academic year and falling behind colleagues, who have already received admission through state-level counsallings.
Teachers from agricultural universities have warned that the long -term admission process will shorten the academic calendar, reduce time for practical risk along with classroom teaching. ICAR officials cited the “streamlined of the entry system” behind the request in consultation and said that the counseling process would begin in September.
In its information bulletin released in March 2025, ICAR announced that Common University Entrance Test-undergraduate (CUEET-Un) 2025 score will be used for admission to various four-year graduate programs in agriculture and B.S. (Hons.) Agriculture, B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture, BFSC. Fisheries, B.Sc. (Hons.) Agribity Management, and B.Tech. Courses in Agricultural Engineering, Dairy Technology, Food Technology and Biotechnology.
Through its consultation, ICAR 63 will fill 20% of the All India Kota seats in State Agricultural Universities (SAUS). It will also fill 100% seats in central agricultural universities, including Rani Laxmi Bai Central Agriculture University (RLBCAU) in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh; Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University (RPCAU), Samastipur, Bihar; ICAR -Nanational Dairy Reseanchion Institint (NDRI) in Karanal, Haryana; And ICAR -Indian Agriculture Research Institute (IARI) campus in Jharkhand and Assam. ICAR counseling includes AIQ seats in four central universities along with agricultural faculties-Banaras Hindu University, Uttar Pradesh (15%), Aligarh in Aligarh, Aligarh Muslim University, Uttar Pradesh (5%), Santinicate, West Bengal (15%), Vijv-Beriti University in Nagalifa.
In Bulletin, ICAR listed 7,325 AIQ seats in 12 subjects, with the highest in BFSC. Fisheries (2,159 seats) and lowest B.Sc. (Hons.) Serculture (17 seats). ICAR said in its bulletin, “However, the final number of seats will be displayed on the ICAR website www.icar.org.in at the time of online counseling.” Last year, ICAR opened counseling registration on 7 August on August 7, 10 days after the CUET-OG 2024 results were declared for 5,842 AIQ seats on 7 August.
Candidates are demanding ICAR to issue online counseling schedule for academic session 2025-26.
Inspired by his father, Arun Kumar Behera, who works in the Agriculture Department of Odisha, desires to study B.Sc. Agriculture at a central university. “All my friends have got admission in various graduate courses … I am worried about my future. ICAR should issue schedule without any delay,” he said.
Abhishek Nayak from Cuttack, Odisha, who is eyeing entry into B.Sc. , He said that if the ICAR state fails to announce the schedule before the end of the state consultation, he can apply in the state-counseling as he is “ruining my year”.
Mrigank Sinha, another candidate from Patna, Bihar, fears that the students recruited through state consultation will proceed. “Due to late entry through ICAR consultation, we will not be able to catch with them or will not be able to equip ourselves with agricultural equipment due to low risk,” he said.
Ajay Yadav, Faculty of Acharya Narendra Dev University (EnduT), Ayodhya said that the state-level consultation for admission to agricultural courses in Sauce in Uttar Pradesh will end in the first week of September, with UG sections after orientation in the second week. “We may have to conduct another orientation for students who join through ICAR consultation,” he said, warning that late entry would mean “the students accepted through ICAR consultation will not get full risk to practical classes.”
RLBCAU Jhansi’s faculty Nilesh Rajput said that the institute fills 100% seats through ICAR consulting, a process that takes about two months to complete. “If counseling is delayed, students join late and remember a large part of the course. To cover the loss, the classrooms are shortened and the students suffer in acquiring knowledge and training,” he said.
University officials said they have not received any communication from ICAR about counseling.
Karan Narendra Agricultural University, Vice Chancellor Balraj Singh, Job, Rajasthan said, “We still have no official information about consultation and admission process for AIQ Kota seats,”
In a notice on 26 June, ICAR said, “… ICAR counseling portal registration and details will be informed on the ICAR webpage.”
However, Deputy Director General of ICAR (Education) Dr. Joycrushna Jena did not respond to HT’s questions seeking the reasons behind the delay in consultation. An ICAR official said, “We are streamlining the entry system and hence it is delayed.” Another ICAR official of the academic wing said, “There is a slight delay but the entry formalities will be completed by September.”
