Arjun Kapoor discussed his mental health journey at the FICCI Young Leaders Summit and stressed the need to normalize therapy.
Actor Arjun Kapoor opened up about his mental health journey, struggle with obesity and the pressure of sudden fame during his speech at the FICCI Young Leaders Summit in Mumbai. She stressed the importance of normalizing therapy and viewing insecurities as a strength rather than a weakness.
Arjun Kapoor talks openly about the loss
Reflecting on his worst moments, Arjun revealed that the pandemic became a turning point, according to a report in Free Press Journal. He said COVID gave him “a moment of realization.” After realizing that he had not taken care of himself for a decade, he began therapy.
He recalled losing his mother Mona Shourie Kapoor just before the release of his debut film Ishaqzaade in 2012. He admitted, “I was mourning and celebrating at the same time. I became a star overnight, but I was only running away from my pain.”
Discussing his struggle with obesity, Arjun said, “It took me four years to lose 50 kg. It was as much a mental battle as it was a physical one. I was lucky to have the support of my mother, but many people don’t have that kind of emotional or financial support. When you lose your spine at the age of 25, what can the world do to you?”
Aranju encouraged youth to take therapy
Arjun urged the youth to prioritize mental health and seek therapy without shame. He stated that “there is nothing wrong with being weak”, adding that “the strongest people are those who can admit their feelings.” She said therapy “provides a safe outlet for expression, helping individuals feel empowered and wise.”
Concluding his session, Arjun encouraged the audience to “wear your emotions with pride” and embrace vulnerability as a sign of courage. He said that people “can be emotional and still be powerful.”
Arjun Kapoor was last seen earlier this year in Mere Husband Ki Biwi, which earned approx 6.75 crores at the worldwide box office. He will be next seen in No Entry 2.
