A first year B.Tech student from KIIT Chhattisgarh was found dead in his hostel room on Sunday.
The body of a first-year B.Tech student of KIIT was found hanging in his hostel room on Sunday, police said on Monday. The student has been identified as Rahul Yadav, a computer science graduate from Raigarh, Chhattisgarh. “His body was found hanging in the hostel room,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sonal Singh Parmar told reporters.
According to the ACP, the incident took place on Sunday and officials of Infocity police station recovered the body.
The ACP said the police are investigating the case from every possible angle to find out the reason behind the student’s death. Infocity Police has started investigation to understand the circumstances of the incident.
Forensic and scientific teams have examined the hostel room, gathering potential evidence, while police are interrogating hostel residents and friends to gather more information.
Notably, this is the third student suicide case on the KIIT campus this year. The first incident reported on 16 February involved a Nepali female student, and on 1 May another Nepali student died.

KIIT clarified in a statement that the student took this step due to personal reasons.
“It is learned that it was a love affair. The student took this step due to personal reasons. The student’s mother has also confirmed this. She said that her son was in a long-term relationship with a girl whom he knew personally. Today, after the post-mortem, the student’s mother said that the girl’s father and family had threatened and intimidated her. As a result, the student was forced to take his life. She has said that she will lodge a complaint at the police station. Against the family,” the statement read.
In May, a fact-finding committee constituted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) held KIIT University in Bhubaneswar responsible for the death of two students earlier this year. The committee said that “illegal and unlawful activity by the university” had contributed to a death, and that the administration’s actions “amount to criminal liability.”
The committee led by Professor Nageswara Rao submitted its report on May 20, 2025, after visiting the campus, meeting stakeholders and reviewing all relevant details.
