A very rare dinosaur fossil has been sold in $ 30.5 million ( 263 crores) in an auction in New York. It was a seratosorus, a meat -eating dinosaur with a horn, sharp teeth on its nose and sowing armor on your back and tail.
The buyer wants to give it a loan to an institution, which is suitable for samples of this “rareness and importance”, Sothabi’s auction house said.
Professor Steve BruSet has called such high prices shocking. The dinosaur specialist at the University of Edinburgh feels that the museums cannot tolerate them.

This fossil is special because it is the only one of the four youths known in the world. It is more than 150 million years old. It belongs to the late Jurassic, Kimmeridagian stage, which was present 154–149 million years ago.
The fossil is 6 feet tall and 10 feet tall, with 139 bones. Its skull is almost complete with 57 bones. According to Sothabi, this is a “extraordinary, exhibition-taiyar mounted skeleton”.
The skull contains 43 teeth, as well as 5 additional loose teeth. Its sharp teeth and horny nose are clearly visible. The bones are well preserved, darker in color and shows the fine details.
Sothabi says it is one of the best and most complete fossils of its kind. It was expected to sell $ 4 to $ 6 million. However, it became too high after six bidders competed, CNN reported.
It was shown from 2000 to 2024 in a museum in Utah. Surprisingly, scientists have never formally studied this fossil in a research paper.
Experts believe that fossils belonged to a young dinosaur due to delicate bone structure. The skeleton is carefully kept open with the jaw in a dramatic posture.
This includes ownership documents, X-rays, 3D scans and legal certification. According to Sothabi, the dinosaur skeleton is introduced with full ownership rights.
Originally found in 1996, it was organized by a museum and later by fossil LLC, who finished and displayed in 2024–25.
