Washington. The Seattle police officer who hit Indian student Jhanvi Kandula with his car will not face criminal charges due to lack of “sufficient” evidence. The authorities have given this information. The King County Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday they will not file criminal charges against Seattle Police Officer Kevin Dave, Fox 13 Seattle reported.
Kandula (23) was killed when she was hit by a police vehicle while crossing the road in Seattle in January last year. Dave was driving this police car. He was driving at a speed of more than 119 kilometers per hour towards the incident site after receiving a tip-off about a case of excessive drug abuse. The car hit Kandula so hard that she fell 100 feet away.
In bodycam footage released by the Seattle Police Department, Officer Daniel Order was seen laughing about the fatal accident and denying that Dave was at fault.
It has been reported in the news that King County Prosecuting Attorney Lisa Manion said that she feels she lacks evidence to prove a criminal case.
The statement also said the prosecutor’s office also found comments made by Seattle Police Officer Order to be “deplorable and deeply troubling.”
The orderer was not involved in the January crash but was heard in the video saying, “But she is dead.” He was laughing on the phone.
He was heard saying in a video, “Well she was 26 years old. It had no special importance.” However, the orderer may be terminated for these comments.
Kandula was a graduate student at Northeastern University’s Seattle campus. The university had said in January 2023 that they would award him the degree posthumously and the degree would be handed over to his family.
