The “most advanced” moon photo ever taken is here! A Kurdish astrophotographer, Darya Kawa Mirza, has finally captured all the interesting surface details of the moon that, quite possibly, “no one has ever seen before”.
Speaking on social media platform Instagram, the Kurdish astrophotographer shared a series of high-resolution, artificial intelligence-free photographs of the moon’s surface.
Mirza said these images are the “sharpest” and “clearest” pictures of the Moon ever taken by an astrophotographer.
It is worth mentioning that Mirza had to observe and shoot the moon for four consecutive days to get the perfect picture. Sharing details and facts about the picture, the astrophotographer said that the picture is about 708 gigabytes large, and more than 81000 images were put together to get the perfect picture.
For photography enthusiasts, the image shared by Mirza has a resolution of 159.7-megapixels.
“Combining four different moon phases and the shadow region, it reveals an interesting topography of the lunar surface,” Mirza said in the post.
Mirza also informed that a modified Skywatcher Flextube 250p Dobson Ian telescope on equatorial mount NEQ 6pro was used to monitor the moon, while a Canon EOS 1200D was used to capture minerals and a ZWO ASI 178mc for details.
The astrophotographer clearly stated that there was no artificial intelligence (AI) involved in this image.
“This is what the moon would look like if it were a flat disk with mountains on it,” Mirza said.
Reddit discusses the ‘clearest’ photo of the moon
Mirza’s “clearest” moon photo was posted on Reddit, sparking a discussion among astronomy and photography enthusiasts.
One user questioned whether the colours in Mirza’s photo were representative of the actual metals and minerals present on the Moon, to which another user responded that these are not the colours the human eye can naturally see.
“Saturation has been increased to highlight geological differences on the moon’s surface,” the user explained, adding that areas in red indicate higher iron and feldspar content, while areas in blue have higher titanium content. “Rather than looking at the colors as ‘real’ or ‘fake,’ it is more accurate to consider them as a tool that simulates what can be seen with enhanced detection capabilities.”
