For Indian students dreaming of an international education without financial burden, the European Union has given a golden opportunity. Through the Erasmus+ Scholarship Program, students can now study in 19 European countries, including academic powerhouses such as Germany, France, Italy and Netherlands, completely tuition-free. In some cases, they can also get a monthly stipend of up to € 1,400 (about Rs 1.4 lakh) along with additional grants for visas, travel, housing and insurance.
This initiative is part of the Major Educational Exchange Program of the European Union, which aims to offer global risk, educational excellence and mutual learning to students worldwide. India is one of the partner countries, makes its students eligible to apply for international internships under undergraduate exchanges, full-time post-graduate degrees and even Erasmus+.
In the latest intake for Erasmus+, 101 Indian students received scholarships for a two -year postgraduate program, of which 50 are women, which focuses a strong focus on gender balance and inclusion in international education.
What covers Erasmus+?
Erasmus+ scholarship is beyond forgiving tuition only. Students benefit:
- No tuition fees on participation in European universities
- Registration, laboratory and library fee exemption
- Monthly stipend to € 1,400 to cover the cost of living
- Financial assistance for visa fee, international travel, health insurance and housing
The program includes studies in other countries including France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland.
Who can apply?
To be eligible for erasmus+ scholarship:
- The applicant should be from a partner country, India is one
- Graduate applicants should have completed at least 1-2 years college
- Postgraduate applicants should receive a recognized bachelor’s degree
- English proficiency is mandatory. Most programs require IELTS (6.5-7.0 band), toefl (90+ score), or another accepted language test.
- The Indian University should have a memorandum (MoU) with Erasmus+, and the enrollment should be rooted through the university’s nominated Erasmus+ Coordinator
how to apply
This process begins by contacting the Irasmus+ Coordinator at your home university. Applications are generally presented online, and candidates are selected on the basis of performance in educational qualifications, language skills and interviews.
Most Erasmus+ Program Applications open between October and February every year, although the deadline may vary by specific university and courses.
