Many serious health conditions develop silently. Dr Saurabh Sethi, gastroenterologist, AIIMS, shares 3 simple tests that can detect risks early and save lives.
Many serious digestive conditions, including liver, stomach and intestinal disorders, develop silently without obvious symptoms in the early stages. By the time symptoms appear, the disease has progressed significantly. To help detect potential problems before they become life-threatening, Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist trained at Ames, Harvard, and Stanford universities, shared 3 simple, routine tests that everyone should consider in his October 25 Instagram post. 1. Lipid Profile Test
“High LDL cholesterol and triglycerides are early warning signs for heart disease. Globally, about 4 in 10 adults have high cholesterol, often without any symptoms,” explains Dr. Sethi. Regular lipid profile tests help to detect these risks early and allow timely intervention.
2. Blood Sugar Test
“High blood sugar silently damages your heart, kidneys, and brain,” warns Dr. Sethi. More than 500 million people worldwide have diabetes, and half of them don’t even know it. A simple blood sugar test can uncover hidden risks and prevent serious complications.
3. Bone Density Test
Dr. Sethi says, “After 40, bones begin to weaken rapidly. Low bone density means that even the slightest drop can lead to a fracture. About 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men over the age of 50 will suffer an osteoporosis-related fracture.” Early detection helps in taking preventive measures to maintain bone health.
Dr Sethi concluded, “As a doctor, my advice is simple: prevention is always cheaper and better than cure. Share this widely to spread awareness.”
