Is coconut water really healthy?
In the video, the doctor highlighted the effectiveness of coconut water for hydration, intestinal dynamics, acid reflux and high blood pressure, which is responsible for its electrolyte and potassium content. While he accepted the potential benefits for kidney stones and as a sports drink option due to low sugar and high potassium, Dr. Sethi reduced claims about direct weight loss effects, painful duration decreased, or depression relief due to lack of strong evidence.
He said: “Coconut water, yes or not. Hydrate the body, yes. It is good for the dynamics of the intestine, yes. Electrolytes support digestion. My acid reflux calms, yes. Help in weight loss, no direct effects. No direct effects. Potassium is good.
‘1 cup coconut water is safe for most healthy adults’
Dr. Sethi also shared a description of the calorie content of coconut water and provided a recommended daily intake for healthy adults, with a warning for individuals already existing. He said, “High in calories? Number 45 to 60 kcal per cup. How much to drink? A cup, which is 240 mL a day, is safe for most healthy adults. If you have problems with kidney, heart, or blood sugar.”
Earlier, Dr. Jamal A Khan, MBBS, MD (Medical Microbiology), and cancer immunotherapist warned people, especially those who are older, to avoid drinking coconut water, because the drink is more in potassium. Click here to know what he said.
