When the Look East Policy was launched, it was focused on building economic strength with South-East Asian countries, whereas now the focus of the Act East Policy is on economic and security cooperation. Actually, this is an extension of the Look East Policy, in which emphasis is laid on keeping relations with the countries of the Indo-Pacific region deeper, better and progressive. The focus area of ​​the Look East Policy was only South-East Asia, whereas the focus area of ​​the Act East Policy has extended to South-East Asia as well as East Asia.

In the last 10 years, India’s trade with ASEAN countries has increased from US$ 65 billion to US$ 120 billion. India also announced a line of credit of $ 1 billion for various development works in Russia’s Far East.

Under the Act East Policy, India is countering the growing influence of China and strong relations with Singapore will prove to be important in this.
