What is the ‘water trick’ for weight loss?

While we know staying hydrated is important for our health and body, Alan Aragon’s ‘water trick’ involves drinking two glasses of water before meals to help control appetite and reduce overall calorie intake. He says that the water you drink before eating will help you save calories.

“There’s something really interesting about Orgasm and what I call the ‘water trick,'” Allen said. You can actually drink plain water before each meal. After water preloading, you will eat much less. This is a good thing to do especially when you go out to eat dinner. Drink two large glasses of water when you sit down before bringing out fresh bread and butter: this will significantly reduce the amount of calories you eat.

drinking water with food

Drink enough water – You may have heard this from your parents, doctors, and friends. But is it good to drink water even during meals? According to Allen, it is.

He said, “I always get this question: Doesn’t drinking water with food weaken the digestive enzymes, and then you won’t be able to digest the food properly? In fact there is no evidence of this. I understand what people are thinking, but when you look at a population that eats a lot of soup, they can’t get as much water in with their food, and they’re digesting the food properly. So, I don’t think people need to worry about it if they decide to use the ‘water trick’ to put a top-speed limiter on a cheesecake after their main meal.’

Does the trick of drinking water before meals work?

According to Dr Rakesh Gupta, senior consultant, internal medicine, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, the trick of drinking water before meals has ‘gained popularity as a simple and effective way to support weight management and overall health.’ Drinking water before meals can help you feel full, potentially reducing calorie intake, she said.

Dr. Rakesh Gupta said, “Several studies show that drinking water before meals can actually help control weight. Water, being calorie-free, adds volume to your stomach, which increases satiety.” This may cause you to eat less during meals.” Food, especially if you’re prone to overeating or mindless snacking, a study published in Obesity found that participants who drank about 500 milliliters of water before each meal had less weight loss over a 12-week period. Lost more weight than people who didn’t do the same. ,

He added, “In addition, water aids digestion and helps maintain the body’s natural functions, which is important for overall health. Sometimes, when we think we’re hungry, we’re really just thirsty. Drinking water before meals can help you distinguish between true hunger and dehydration. This can prevent unnecessary calorie intake when you need hydration.”

‘There is no magic solution for weight loss’

However, Dr Rakesh Gupta cautions that it is important to remember that drinking water before meals ‘is not a magic solution for weight loss’. “It works best when combined with healthy eating habits, portion control, and regular physical activity. For some people, especially older adults, drinking too much water before meals reduces their appetite to such an extent that They may not be getting enough nutrients. So, balance is important,” he said.
