The misguided pilot reached the jail, now Canada asked AI – what action was taken?

Air India pilot drunk: If those who are in charge of the safety and security of passengers in the sky falter, then the question arises not just about one person but about the entire system. A similar case came to light at Vancouver Airport in Canada, where an Air India pilot was caught in a drunken state just before the flight. There was a stir as soon as the matter came to light and now Canada has given Air India an ultimatum in a strict tone to submit the action taken report by 26 January 2026.

Actually, this incident is of 23 December 2025. Air India flight AI 186 was to fly from Vancouver to Delhi via Vienna. All the passengers had boarded the plane, the flight was completely ready for takeoff and the cockpit crew had also taken command. Meanwhile, some officers of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police entered the flight and took a pilot with them. Breath analyzer test of this pilot was done twice. The pilot was taken into custody after failing the test twice.

How did this act of Khushi Pilot get exposed?
According to sources, this pilot was buying liquor at the duty free shop before the flight. Meanwhile, a staff at the duty free store smelled a strong smell of alcohol on his breath. The staff immediately informed the security agencies deployed at the airport. As soon as the information was received, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police came into action. With the help of CCTV footage, the pilot was identified and he was removed from the plane and breath analyzer test was done twice. The pilot failed in both the tests. After this he was declared unfit for duty.

This problem is not small for Air India
Taking a strict stance on this incident, Canada Transport had sent an official letter to Air India. In this letter it was clearly stated that this matter is a direct violation of Canadian Aviation Regulations. Besides, the conditions of Air India’s Foreign Air Operator Certificate (FAOC) have also been violated, in which it is clearly stated that the air operator will ensure safe operations. Canada has not only considered this matter very serious, but has also instructed Air India to take corrective action.

Air India has to reply by 26th January
Transport Canada has asked Air India what kind of corrective action it is taking in its safety management system after this incident. Also, what steps were taken against the guilty pilot and the lapse in the system? Transport Canada has given Air India time till January 26 to answer these questions. Transport Canada has also indicated that it is preparing legal action in this matter on behalf of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Canadian Aviation Authority.
