Hanoi: There is a country which is no less than a paradise for drinkers. Here beer bottles are distributed free like water in every season. In fact, here the whole matter is the opposite, you can drink unlimited beer for free but your pocket may be loose for water. The tax system here is such that in this country you can be provided with unlimited stock of beer bottles for free but water is available at the cost of liquor.
Where is free beer available?
Famous beer brands at water prices
In this country, the most expensive beer bottles are available at the price of water. The famous local beer ‘Bia Hoi’ is available on the roadside for just 18 to 35 rupees, but if you want fresh and pure water, you have to pay 200 to 300 rupees for a bottle. That means you can drink 3 glasses of beer for the price of one bottle of water.
Why is there such a system?
Actually, because of the tax system in Vietnam, this whole matter is the opposite. The famous beer here is made from rice and the alcohol content in it is only 2-3%. The government imposes very low tax on it so that the general public can drink it easily. On the other hand, there is a great shortage of pure water here. Tap water is not fit for drinking, hence the prices of bottled water skyrocket. These prices are affected by branding and transportation.
Here wine and whiskey are available for free
However, the system of cheap and free beer is not only in Vietnam but also in countries like Mexico, Jamaica and Dominican Republic. Free bottles of beer, wine and even whiskey are refilled daily for those booking resorts here. Now in Tokyo and Osaka of Japan, hotels have started ‘Free Beer Hour’ so that more and more tourists can be attracted.
