Always scrolling or watching shows for a long time? Cancer surgeon Dr Tarang Krishna says that proper sleep is the real key to keeping your immune system strong.
Are you always scrolling on your phone late at night or watching shows continuously till 2 am? That ‘just one more episode’ habit can be quietly damaging your immunity. Poor sleep makes you tired, stressed and prone to diseases. Dr Tarang Krishna, MD, Cancer Healer Centre, a cancer specialist with over 22 years of experience, shared in his December 2 Instagram post why getting quality sleep is the real key to keeping your immune system strong and your body healthy. Why is sleep so important for immunity?
Dr. Krishna explains, “Do you know the key to your immune system? And that key is sleep. Poor sleep weakens your immunity. When your sleep is disrupted, your body becomes more susceptible to fatigue, diabetes, autoimmune disorders and many other diseases.”
He further adds, “Our body has a natural ability to fight diseases, but we do not use it properly. This happens because we are often glued to our phones while sleeping. We need proper sleep to reduce inflammation in our body.”
How to strengthen your immunity through sleep
Dr. Krishna further explains the science behind this, “When we remain awake, the melatonin hormone, which is the sleep hormone, does not get a chance to work. And this is why our immune system is not able to recharge. To strengthen our immunity, we need to recharge our systems and for this proper sleep is essential.
He recommends prioritizing consistent, uninterrupted sleep to allow the body to recover, recharge, and maintain strong defenses against disease.
