Mumbai ‘Indian Idol 12’ winner Pawandeep Rajan has talked in detail about the serious road accident that happened earlier this year, which he described as a perspective-changing moment in his life. After this accident, Pawandeep recovered for several months, in which he suffered fractures at many places. He shared this experience for the first time on Salim-Sulaiman’s podcast. He appeared on a public platform for the first time after the accident.
This accident happened on the morning of 5 May 2025, when Pawandeep was going from Uttarakhand to Delhi, so that he could catch a flight for a show to be held in Ahmedabad. His car collided with a parked truck near Moradabad as the driver allegedly fell asleep. In this accident, Pawandeep suffered fractures in both legs, injury to his right hand and serious head injury, after which he was shifted from the local hospital to a big hospital in Delhi NCR and had to undergo several surgeries.
Recalling the moment of the accident, Pawandeep said, “I had got a show. I had to leave during the day, but then we thought that if we leave in the evening, we will reach by morning. It was around 3 o’clock in the night, I was sleeping. By the time I opened my eyes, the accident had happened. The driver had fallen asleep and a truck was standing on the road, which hit our car. I was just sitting there, my door was not opening and only one hand was working. I was telling people. He was trying to get me out of the car.”
Pawandeep told that despite being injured, no immediate help was received. He said, “Initially no one was helping us, then the police came. The car was on fire and I was inside at that very moment. One of them pulled me out. I don’t know how long I was inside, but when I regained consciousness, I was outside the car. Then I was taken to the hospital. Both legs and one arm were broken. I called home and called the family. All I was thinking was to get treatment quickly. Now everything is fine.”
Pawandeep Rajan understood the meaning of small things
After several months of recovery, Pawandeep told that during this long treatment, he understood the importance of small things which earlier he considered normal. He said, “For a month I could not even move from left to right, now I feel happy if I can walk a little. That time taught me the importance of walking. When an incident happens, one should forget it quickly, be happy and consider it a part of life. I had to go through it, it’s done. Now I have started walking a little, maybe after a month I will get better.”
Now Pawandeep Rajan plays guitar
Pawandeep Rajan also told that the return to music is happening slowly. “After the accident, I was bedridden. Then when I came to Mumbai by flight, I was in that condition too. Here too I remained bedridden for a month, then slowly started walking. Now slowly I have also started playing the guitar. My hand has healed a little, but it is not completely healed yet.”
