Mumbai, Actress Nimrat Kaur says stepping into the role of Meera in the new season of “The Family Man” was an exciting opportunity to embrace a character made up of charm, danger and unapologetic ruthlessness.
In the third chapter of the spy-action thriller, which premiered on Friday on Prime Video, Kaur’s Meera emerges as one of the key antagonists along with Jaideep Ahlawat’s Rukma, as the pair faces off against Manoj Bajpayee’s Srikant Tiwari.
Kaur, known for films like “The Lunchbox”, “Airlift” and “Dasvi”, described her character as “bitter chocolate”.
Kaur told PTI in an interview, “She is a bitter chocolate, delicious as a character because she is unattainable for a common man… The fun of playing something like that is the flamboyance, the flair and just the unattainable ruthlessness that you can have fun with. It’s absolutely addictive.”
Kaur said that she has never received such an enthusiastic response to any of her upcoming projects as she did when she revealed that she was a part of “The Family Man”. The actor revealed that initially she responded quietly as she is generally a low-key person.
“Later, I understood why I was getting such a great reaction from everyone, family, friends and people, wherever you meet. Then I started showing off.
Kaur said, “Whenever someone would ask me, ‘What are you doing next?’, I would say, ‘The Family Man’. It’s the most anticipated work I’ve been able to talk about and it’s an honour.”
The 43-year-old actor praised the show’s team, saying that the series has always portrayed its protagonists in a complex, layered manner and not as simple “villains”.
“The thing that wins your heart on the page, it just works, you don’t even know whether you should feel bad for the so-called opponents or whether you should evaluate them. So, in the end, you’re almost confused. And that’s something I find very therapeutic,” she said.
Kaur further said that she did not judge her character Meera despite her negative qualities.
“When a part comes to you, and when you approach a project, a part cannot be evaluated, it frees you from your decisions in life. You have to let go of those good, bad, ugly labels. The fun of playing a character is that you may not meet Meera or Rukma in real life.
“These are characters that you just have to create from the page that you’re given, with the vision that the directors have and the fun that the co-stars bring to the set, and then hope that you can do justice to it. So, I always look forward to parts like that, I really get thrilled to be on a set like that,” she said.
The third season of “The Family Man” will see actor Priyamani reprising the role of Srikant Tiwari’s wife Suchi.
Looking back at the last season, Priyamani said that her family and friends immediately recognized the authenticity of her performances.
She said, “A lot of the scenes between Srikanth and Suchi, especially where they have disagreements, are very real. I remember I told Raj sir and DK sir in season one that whenever there is any kind of disagreement or argument between Srikanth and Suchi, I can relate to it a lot because such disagreements happen in real life too.”
“When my family even watched the season, they said, ‘This is so real, this is you, we can see you reacting like this in real life.’
According to the actor, the question he faces the most from fans is “Why did you cheat Srikanth?” or “What really happened in Lonavala?”
But Priyamani is in no mood to give anything away – there’s not even a hint as to whether season three ultimately responds to those fans’ passion.
“The Family Man 3” also brings back actors Sharib Hashmi, Priyamani, Ashlesha Thakur, Vedant Sinha, Shreya Dhanwanthary, and Gul Panag.
