West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has published the interview list for 20,500 candidates who qualified the teacher recruitment examination for classes 11 and 12 in state-run and state-aided higher secondary schools. The exam was held on 14 September.
A senior SSC official confirmed that the list containing names and roll numbers is available on the WBSSC website and a helpline portal. “Around 20,500 candidates have been called for interview after mandatory verification,” the official said.
The interview list was based on three criteria: candidates’ marks in the written examination (60 marks), teaching experience (10 marks), and eligibility (10 marks). Interviews will be conducted in the ratio of 1:1.6, i.e. 160 candidates will be interviewed for every 100 posts in each subject.
On September 14, the written examination was conducted at 478 centers for 35 subjects, each of which was of 60 marks. The official noted that many ‘spotless’ candidates from the 2016 exam, among the 26,000 whose jobs were canceled by the April 3 Supreme Court order, are included in the interview list to fill 12,445 vacancies for Class 11-12.
The verification process before the interview will start from November 18.
WBSSC announced the results of SLST exam held on September 14, 2025 to fill the posts after the cancellation of 25,753 school jobs by the Supreme Court. The objective of the written examination is to recruit higher secondary teachers and fill 12,514 vacancies. The Commission will interview 160 candidates for every 100 vacancies.
Candidates can check the WBSSC SLST 2025 result on the official website, westbengalssc.com. The results published in PDF format contain the roll numbers of the candidates who have qualified the written examination and are eligible for the interview round.
The final merit list will be released on the basis of candidates’ performance in both written examination and interview. Selected candidates will have to undergo document verification before receiving the final appointment letter.
Both the Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court declared the 2016 recruitment process corrupt and illegal, leading to the cancellation of 25,753 teaching and non-teaching posts. The involvement of several prominent politicians and a former education minister in the scam has raised serious concerns about the state’s education system.
Following strict directions from the court, the Commission was directed to publish separate lists of tainted and innocent candidates. The Supreme Court also ordered the cancellation of the entire 2016 panel and ordered the new recruitment process to be completed by December 31, 2025. The teacher recruitment scam had given rise to a major political controversy in West Bengal.
