For the first time since the test began in 1936, more Indians than US students took the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) in 2022-23, according to a report released on Friday. China followed both countries on the list.
In a report of The Economic Times (ET), this shows demand for testing is increasing, Education Testing Service (ETS) chief executive Amit Sevak was quoted as saying Indians,
The GRE is a standardized test that tests the critical thinking, analytical writing, verbal reasoning skills, and quantitative aptitude of students who seek admission to colleges in the US or other countries.
According to the report data, 113,304 Indians took the exam in June-July in 2022-23, followed by 97,676 Americans and 57,769 Chinese.
It also highlighted that the number of US citizens taking this test has fallen by 61 per cent from 250,274 in 2019-20. At the same time, the number of Indians applying for GRE has increased by 62 percent from 69,835.
One of the main reasons for the increase in the number of Indians appearing for this exam is the acceptance of GRE scores in more than 100 business schools here.
Sevak said the goal of these institutions is to bring in more international students and “internationalize” them Higher education in country. ETS is a non-profit education testing and evaluation organization that conducts the GRE.
