Malala Yousafzai, the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner and global icon of courage and resilience, has shared a heartwarming glimpse of her love story with her husband Aseer Malik.
In a clear road interview with meetcutenicThe couple recalled how they first met each other seven years ago during a go-karting outing. “I had a little accident,” Malala said, laughing. “I was really nervous and worried,” Esser said, adding that she was worried she might get hurt.
This accident turned out to be the beginning of a bond that grew deeper over time. Malala said with a smile, “I like many things about him; he is intelligent, kind, cares about people and he is funny. More importantly, he laughs at my jokes.” Asser’s favorite thing about him? The pair also reflected on what keeps their relationship strong. Malala shared, “To keep a relationship healthy, you need open communication. You need to be patient and kind.” She revealed that they try to diffuse any tension immediately, even if it takes some effort for her to open up. “He’ll ask me over and over again, ‘Are you OK?’ And after the fifth time, I’ll finally say, ‘Yeah, I’m a little nervous.’
For Malala, feeling safe enough to express emotions is essential: “When you don’t feel judged, you can be yourself and talk through things.”
The 28-year-old activist also revealed how their seven-year age difference adds a special dynamic to their marriage. In a TikTok video posted on August 20, she offered “free relationship advice”, saying, “If you marry a slightly older man, like I did, you’ll suddenly be at famous rock concerts – and I’ll admit, Oasis in Dublin turned out to be a show I liked as much as Esser.”
Malala, who became a global icon after surviving an assassination attempt by the Taliban at the age of just 15, continues to inspire millions of people.
