Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood said on Wednesday that The grant-in-aid of Rs 108 crore will be used for salaries of teachers and staff, maintenance of college buildings and other necessary capital expenditure for 12 colleges in Delhi.
The following 12 colleges have been granted the funds includes, Acharya Narendra Dev College, Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences, Bhagini Nivedita College, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education, Keshav Mahavidyalaya, Maharaja Agrasen College, Maharshi Valmiki College of Education, Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences, and Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies.
The Education Minister further said that, under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi Government is providing timely and adequate financial support to all the educational institutions of Delhi, ensuring that neither teachers nor staff face inconvenience, nor the educational activities of students are disrupted. The government is fully committed to strengthening the quality of higher education institutions in Delhi. With the release of this grant, the financial and academic position of these colleges will be further strengthened.
The Delhi Education Minister said that previous governments either failed to release the grants or delayed it, putting the future of students studying in these colleges at risk. He also said that as soon as our government came to power, we assessed the infrastructure and financial needs of all the educational institutions of Delhi. If institutions are not financially strong, they cannot produce capable and competent students.
The Delhi Education Minister also commented that the release of this grant to 12 colleges is a Diwali gift from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to the teachers and students of Delhi.
Further, the Education Minister of Delhi criticized the previous governments and said that due to their lack of intention and neglect, the educational institutions of Delhi suffered a lot. He further said that they find excuses not to work and work only for political gains. During his tenure, no real attention was given to the infrastructural and basic needs of these colleges, leading to their deteriorating condition.
The Education Minister also informed that the Delhi Government has issued a separate Rs 24 crore for building maintenance, electricity and water facilities and other essential facilities in these 12 colleges, ensuring that essential infrastructure improvements are done on priority basis.
