Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) locked horns over Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s Karva Chauth celebrations, while the opposition party mocked the widespread celebration. The ruling party in the national capital hit back, calling the critics “enemies of Sanatan Dharma”.
Gupta celebrated Karva Chauth at Chief Minister Jan Seva Sadan on October 10. Many women politicians, spouses of Union ministers, MPs, MLAs, councilors, government officials and other prominent women attended the event.
AAP leader and former minister Saurabh Bhardwaj shared a video on X discussing the celebrations.
What is the big deal?
“Now Rekha Gupta ji celebrated Karva Chauth. Rekha Gupta ji celebrated it with her husband. What’s the big deal in it? Is this the first time someone has celebrated Karva Chauth with her husband? You must have seen the video; it is everywhere. On one side there are husbands, and on the other side there are about a hundred security guards, whose own wives could not celebrate Karva Chauth because of this,” he said.
Bhardwaj made the remarks during a Diwali milan program organized by the party for autorickshaw drivers on Sunday.
He said in the video, “Look at that video, a security guard is standing with her (Rekha Gupta’s) Karva Chauth thali. His wife is probably watching the video, seeing her husband helping Rekha Gupta perform the Karva Chauth rituals and thinking… This is the price of your vote, that Rekha Gupta celebrated Karva Chauth. Just see what a heavy price you people are paying for this.”
BJP hit back at AAP, saying party leaders were unhappy that the Chief Minister celebrated the festival with hundreds of women.
“The enemies of Sanatan Dharma are deeply saddened to see how the woman Chief Minister of Delhi is celebrating the festival of Karva Chauth with hundreds of women at her Jan Seva Sadan,” the party said on Twitter.
Look at that video, a security guard is standing with a plate of Karva Chauth… this is the price of your vote.
Taking aim at AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, he said that people are not allowed to come to his “Sheesh Mahal”.
In response to this, Bhardwaj shared the full video of his speech. In the video, he also accused the Delhi government of lying to the people on achievements and taking credit for initiatives taken by the previous Arvind Kejriwal-led government.
