Superstar Salman Khan’s Sikandar may not have performed well at the box office and many critics even termed it his “weakest” film. However, Salman has no regrets about doing the film. In fact, he has criticized the film’s director AR Murugadoss, accusing him of coming to the set late at night.
Salman hits back at AR Murugadoss
During the Weekend Ka Vaar episode of Bigg Boss 19, Salman talked about his last release Sikander, and poked fun at AR Murugadoss for his comments on Salman arriving late on the sets of the film.
Comedian Ravi Gupta joined the show and asked Salman to name the films which he regrets doing. If we look at his career, Salman took the names of Suryavanshi (1992) and Nishchay (1992).
When Ravi wondered if there were any films in recent times, Salman said, “There are none of the new ones… People say Sikandar but I don’t agree, it had a very good plot.”
Subsequently, Salman criticized AR Murugadoss for his comments after the failure of Sikandar at the box office.
Salman said in a sarcastic tone, “Lekin kya hai na mein main set pe 9 baaj ke raat pe tha hai, toh usme bad bad ho gayi. He said this. But his picture (Madharaasi) has just been released in which the actor arrived at 6 pm (I used to arrive on sets by 9 PM and that created issues. This is what the director said but my rib was broken. Recently, another picture of his was released, and the actor of the film used to reach the set by 6).”
Salman also talked about producers Sajid Nadiadwala and Murugadoss trying to avoid criticism for the film.
“So first this picture was of Murugadoss and Sajid Nadiadwala. After that Sajid first called, Murugadoss came back from the vehicle and saw the picture (Initially the film belonged to Murugadoss and Sajid) Nadiadwala but later Sajid escaped. Then, Murugadoss also left and made a film in South,” added Salman.
The Tiger 3 actor went on to take an indirect jibe at Madharaasi’s box office failure, saying, “Madharaasi’s film has been directed by him which has released, it is a very bad film and so is it.” badi….(smiles), Sikandar se badi blockbuster (He has directed a film called Madharaasi. It is a very big and a bigger blockbuster than Sikandar).”
What did Murugadoss say about Salman?
In an interview with Valaipechu Voice after the release of Sikandar, Murugadoss talked about the reasons why the film failed at the box office.
He said, “It is not easy to shoot with a star. Even the day scenes, we have to shoot at night because he comes to the set by 8 pm. We are used to shooting from early morning, but things do not work like this there.” And usually a nap would occur.”
He said, “The story was emotional, but I couldn’t execute it well.”
Sikandar tells the story of Raja Sanjay Rajkot (Salman) of Rajkot, also known as Sikandar. Following the death of his wife Saishri (Rashmika Mandanna), he sets out on a mission to protect three men in Mumbai who have received organ donation from his late wife, while also facing threats from a vengeful politician.
