Aryan Khan’s directorial debut, The Ba**ads of Bollywood, has been in the news and in people’s minds ever since its release last month. The show has been the most watched show on Netflix in India every week since its release, although some of the jokes and tracks have come under question for crossing limits. Now, in his first interview, Aryan has admitted that he and his co-writers had received notes for several scenes, but he took a stand.
Aryan Khan says he has received notes for many scenes
The Ba**ads of Bollywood was written and produced by Aryan along with his co-writers Manav Chauhan and Bilal Siddiqui. The series has been praised for satirizing the Hindi film industry with satires and inside jokes. In an interview with Variety, Aryan revealed, “We got some notes on certain scenes where they were like, ‘Oh, it’s very this, or it’s very that,’ but then I took a stand. If you don’t like it, I mean, the show isn’t for you, or it is for you, but maybe this show isn’t for you, your 18-year-old might like it. Your uncle might like it, Who like certain types of humor or certain types of jokes.”
‘Wanted to be self-deprecating, not insulting’
In the same interview, Aryan had earlier clarified that the makers were trying to poke fun at the industry from within, but never wanted to be offensive. “We wanted to be self-deprecating, but not anywhere disrespectful. So I think we held that line right, and the guardrails themselves were put in place, mostly because, making something about the industry and being a part of the industry, there has to be — there’s a lot of respect. People being able to take jokes on themselves, I think, is the first and foremost thing about comedy. Take a joke on yourself and then spread the love. People are extremely kind. Were sporty, and we also tried not to push the boundaries in terms of being insulting, just being self-deprecating,” he said.
All about the scoundrels of Bollywood
The Bollywood baddie is currently in controversy due to the defamation suit filed by former NCB officer Sameer Wankhede against Netflix and Red Chillies Entertainment. The lawsuit alleges that the show copies and defames Wankhede. Now Delhi High Court has issued summons to the makers in this matter.
The Ba***ds of Bollywood stars Lakshya, Sahher Bambba, Bobby Deol, Raghav Juyal, Anya Singh, Mona Singh, and Manoj Pahwa in pivotal roles, along with cameos from several Bollywood A-listers including Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Ranveer Singh, and Emraan Hashmi.
