New Delhi: Is the flu in your house and neighborhood? You are not alone. India is watching a boom in influenza cases this year, in which data from hospitals across the country shows that one in four has conducted a positive test for the virus.

In India, 25% positivity rate for seasonal influenza is considered higher and indicates wide outbreaks. The high positivity rate can be linked directly to the latest H3N2 stress rapid spread and virals, which is currently the major circulating sub -availability of the virus.

Of the 100,000 samples collected from January to September, some 25,000 cases were confirmed as flu, which were data to hospitals uploaded on the integrated health information platform of the central government. This data has been closely tracked by the country’s top biomedical researcher, Indian Council of Medical Research and National Disease Control Center (NCDC), government’s disease and accurate of public health institute.

Mint has reviewed the data. Questions sent to the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health remained unanswered.

Season

In August and September, the peak of this flu season increased public health concerns across the country after the monsoon rains.

Data suggests that the H3N2 virus is the most common stress, some 10,000, or 40%accounting in confirmed cases. The H1N1 virus, a normal swine flu strain, was also found in about 4,000 samples.

The government official said that high percentage of H3N2 cases is the cause of the vulnerability of young children, men and the elderly with pre -existing conditions, who create an important part of the affected.

An expert doctor immediately called for public health communication. “This recent spike is an important public health issue,” Dr. Dr, Senior Advisor in Internal Medicine at Apollo Spectra Hospital in New Delhi. Sancheyan Roy said. “We need more emphasis on early detection to reduce flu vaccination, hygiene, and proliferation. Public awareness campaign, especially in schools and workplaces, are important to reduce transmission.”

Fast mutation

A scientist acquainted with research pointed to the risk of influenza, which was leading to more serious diseases. “The influenza virus has a sudden trend to change, it is very unstable,” the scientist said. “The key is to detect and detect these respiratory virus so that they do not develop in more severe conditions like pneumonia.” The scientist requested oblivion.

NCDC last year recorded 20,414 H1N1 cases and 347 deaths in India, which highlight the severity of these infections. This is a hurry to track data on H3N2 years as the virus is still spreading rapidly.

An expert said that the increase in flu cases in the last nine months requires further studies for better public health strategies. Dr. Jayaprakash Muliil, virologist and former Principal of Christian Medical College, Vellore said, “We see these boom every time.

Meanwhile, at the individual level, the former Chief Scientist of the World Health Organization, Dr. Soumya Swaminathan had a simple piece of advice: “When the infection is increasing, it is advisable to wear a mask and wash your hands often in crowded places.”
