New Delhi : Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Monday approved the proposal for revival of 1,027 posts of Vice Principals in the Directorate of Education of the Delhi government for the vacancy year 2014-15 to 2019.
“In a move aimed at ending ad-hocism and contractual appointments, Saxena has approved the revival of 1,027 posts of Vice-Principals in DoE. These posts of Vice-Principals would have been automatically abolished as they were not filled within the limits,” a statement from the LG office said.
It said the Delhi Education Department is already suffering from an acute shortage of vice principals and the vacant posts were filled by the DoE on ad-hoc and contract basis.
As per the earlier Recruitment Rules (RR), 100% of the posts of Vice Principals were to be filled through promotion, with the cadre of Vice Principals changed from Group ‘B’ Gazetted to Group ‘A’ Gazetted and the mode of selection from Union Public Service. A change was also made by the Commission (UPSC) from 100% through promotion to 50% through promotion and 50% through direct recruitment.
The statement said the LG was informed that out of these 1,027 posts of Vice Principals, 873 posts were filled on ad-hoc basis till the vacancy year September 2018 (before amendment of RR dated 15.10 2018) and the remaining 154 posts were vacant. . The posts (pertaining to vacancy year 2018-2019) have not been filled.
As per the new RR, eligible candidates are available for promotion and their promotion cannot be denied, and in the near future, the current situation may worsen, given the fact that Vice-Principals may also retire thereby There may be more vacancies.
