This year Bathukamma festival will end with Saddula Bathukamma on 21 September, 2025 to 29 September 2025. This nine -day festival is dedicated to Devi Gauri (Maa Parvati) and is considered a symbol of worship of female energy and nature. Let’s know the names of the nine days of this festival, their special importance and the tradition of celebrating.
According to Panditji of Gachibovali Hanuman Temple, every day of this festival has a distinct identity and importance which is associated with a special offerings or decoration.
Angry Pula Bathukamma (Day-1): The festival begins with auspicious basis made from cow dung.
Mudappu Bathukamma (day-3): Prasad prepared with pulses and rice is offered on the third day.
Atla Bathukamma (day-5): On this day, Atla (a type of pancake) is made.
Vekayala Bathukamma (day-7): Bathukamma is decorated with neem leaves, symbolizing health on the seventh day.
Saddula Bathukamma (day-9): On the ninth and last day, milk-made dishes like kheer are offered and grand immersion occurs.
Every evening, women gather at one place with Bathukamma adorned with their homes. This Bathukamma colorful flowers are made by decorating it in the shape of the stupa. Women dance around it by singing traditional folk songs, which is called ‘Bathukamma Paduta’. After worshiping, these Bathukamas are immersed in the river or pond. The immersion of the ninth day takes even more grand form with the celebration of Dussehra.
