Maternity expert and infertility specialist at AIMS Hospital in Dombivali. Deepali Laud, Consultant Gynecologist Dr. Deepali Lodh shared that in fact, some initial warnings of PCOs are likely to be seen even before their first period.

He said, “Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal condition that usually becomes more pronounced after a girl’s menstruation begins. However, according to various studies, the initial signs may appear before the first period, often in late childhood or early pavilions.”

PCOS initial signs

PCOS is one of the most common hormonal disorders among young girls, but can be managed with the help of a good lifestyle, such as a proper diet and regular exercise, with medical intervention. And the first step towards management begins with detection of signals, and sometimes begins even before the period, which indicates that they are at high risk.

Dr. Lodh shared these four signs, parents need to look out for their daughters who are still to start their period:

  1. Initial puberty change: Some girls will display puberty signals before expectation, such as breast growth or pubic hair development. These signs should not be ignored at all.
  2. Weight gain and obesity: Rapid weight, especially around the abdomen, can be a risk factor for future PCOS in girls. Do not just promote this weight for the absence of poor food habits and exercise. It will require timely evaluation.
  3. Skin issues: There are some signs suffering from acne, oily skin, or deep patches on the neck and underarms (esanthosis nigricans) that a girl may have insulin resistance. It can further indicate PCOS. So, be cautious!
  4. Additional hair growth: Abnormal hair growth on the face, chest, or back (Hirsitism) before menstruation can be caused by a hormonal imbalance that can be connected to PCOS.

Furthermore, he mentioned the importance of the intervention of the parents, because these are indicated that, according to the gynecologist, ‘cannot be ignored’, and quick therapy needs to be attracted to the healing.

Genetic risk factor?

In addition to visual signals, young girl in childhood or early puberty is also a genetic component to consider. Dr. “A mother or sister with PCOS enhanced the possibility of developing the child later,” Loth said. So if the mother or the brother -in -law of the elder menstruation has PCOS, they need to be more vigilant, as the child is genetically predetermined to develop PCOS. This means regular monitoring of their hormonal health to reduce future risks.

To avoid these problems, Dr. Loth recommended that young girls showing the initial PCOS signal focus on a healthy lifestyle, follow a nutritious diet, exercise regularly, maintain weight within a normal range, and manage stress with the help of yoga. If parents look at these signs, the gynecologist reiterated that they should go to see a doctor for testing, as, according to him, it is better to pay attention from the beginning to prevent problems in the future.
