Donald Trump’s top diplomat, Marco Rubio, led Israel on Saturday, as the Israeli strike on Hamas leaders in Qatar expanded the tension with prominent American colleagues in the Middle East and the settlements in the West Bank with captured West Bank.
Before leaving for departure, Rubio told reporters and Trump was not happy about Israel’s strike.
“What happened, happened,” he said. “We are going to meet them. We are going to talk about what the future is,” he said.
The US State Secretary’s visit to Israel also comes forward from high-level meetings at the United Nations in New York later this month. Countries including France and Britain are expected to recognize the state of Palestinian, which is a step protested by Israel.
What did Rubio say on American relations with Israel
Rubio said that American relations with Israel would not be affected, but they would discuss with the Israeli how the strike would affect Trump’s desire to secure the return of all the hostages organized by Hamas, get rid of terrorists and end the Gaza war.
“There are still 48 hostages that are worth being released immediately, all at once. And still ahead of the time ahead, to rebuild Gaza in a way that gives people the quality of life that they all want.”
Rubio said that it was not yet determined who would do this, who would pay for it and who would be in charge of this process.
After Israel, Rubio is due to Trump’s involvement in UK’s plan next week.
