The government on Tuesday informed the Rajya Sabha that the National Medical Commission (NMC) has not decided to freeze approval for new medical colleges on the basis of NMC information or increase MBBS seats for academic year 2025-26.
In a written reply, Health Minister Anupriya Patel said that NMC has implemented a systematic and transparent procedure to evaluate and approve applications related to seats in medical colleges and institutions.
Listing the steps taken by the Medical Commission, Patel said that every year, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (RARB) of NMC has invited applications particularly through an online portal for the establishment of new medical colleges or institutions, which offer graduate courses, which offer graduate courses, increase the number of UG seats in the current institutions, or PG seats in the current institutions, or PG seats, or PG seats, or PG seats, or PG seats, or PG seats in the current institutions. “On receiving an application, the Marb conducts initial check and in case of deficiencies, a cause notice (SCN) is issued to the concerned college, allowing them to address and improve issues,” he said.
Patel said that medical colleges are assessed by a randomly selected group of expert assessors to ensure fairness and fairness.
In addition, Section 14 of the installation, evaluation and rating regulations 2023 of medical institutions states that for evaluation purposes, Marb can employ methods such as other forms of digital or document verification, Aadhaar-based appearance registers, live video feeds, photographs, hospital management information system, or unannounced physical assessment.
These assessments are reviewed by investigators and experts. If additional deficiencies are found, a SCN is issued for sub -section (3) of Section 28 of the NMC Act, provides another opportunity for compliance.
The permission letter is given only to the institutions that fully follow the regulations and guidelines issued by the Commission on all the relevant provisions of the NMC Act 2019 and time -time, Patel concluded.
