The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment has criticized the Ministry of Minority Affairs for not receiving approval for important scholarship schemes aim of minority students, PTI said.
In its eleventh report on the action taken by the Ministry’s 2024-25 demands for the grant presented in Parliament on Monday, the panel noted that pre-matric, post-matric and merit-cum-peins scholarships were held from 2022-23, waiting for the “harmonization” with similar plans as other ministers.
The delay has denied the necessary support to the economically weaker students.
“The committee believes that the education of students should have suffered due to non-availability of financial assistance for them. Students should not be suffering without any mistake, need to take concrete steps to complete the process in a timely manner,” insisted that the ministry should align the benefits with those available for other marginalized groups.
The original report of the committee found that many schemes, such as National Fellowship, National Overseas Scholarship, Free Coaching and Residential Education, Social Justice and Empowerment Department, Department of Empowerment and Ministry of Tribal Affairs are being implemented smoothly. However, these schemes have been closed by the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
The report states that without these schemes, they are obstructing the needy of the Ministry of Minority Affairs and are entitled to pursuing higher education to students from minority communities.

No expenditure was incurred under this scheme in 2023-24, and the committee insisted that the Ministry should fully use the budget of 2024-25 before the 15th Finance Commission cycle ends in 2025-26.
