The monsoon season affects the state with intense rainfall in coastal and Malnad districts, causing difficulties for residents. India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that rain will remain in this week. Currently, heavy rains are killing the entire North Kannada district. As a precaution, a holiday has been declared for schools, Anganwadis and colleges in five talukas in the coastal region on Saturday (July 26).
District Collector Laxmi Priya has issued an order, which has announced a holiday for schools, colleges and Anganwadis in Karwar, Ankola, Kumta, Honanavar and Bhatkal Taluks.
In addition, due to heavy rains in Chikkamagaluru district, Deputy Commissioner Meena Nagraj has announced a holiday for schools in Malnad area of the district as a precaution. In particular, a holiday has been announced for Anganwadis and schools in Mudigere, Kalasa, Sriinginjari, NR Pura and Koppa Taluks. However, the colleges will be open as usual.
In addition, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange warning for tomorrow. An orange warning has been announced for the districts of Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and South Kannada. A yellow alert has been issued for the remaining districts across the state. Apart from Karwali and Malanad, heavy rains are expected in Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadagir, Belgaum, Bellary, Davangre, Hasan and Kodagu districts.

Schools have been closed Today (25 July) in many districts. With several alerts released, the authorities on Thursday declared holidays for schools and colleges in some areas. A yellow alert was issued for Bengaluru and internal districts such as Hasan, Kolar, Mysuru and Tumkuru. According to the State Agriculture Department, heavy rains running already have started damaging crops like coffee and paddy in districts like Kodagu, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru. Farmers have been advised to secure their farm and strengthen the drainage systems to prevent further damage.
