What are kidney cysts?
“Kidney ulcers are cavity filled with water in the kidneys. Simple ulcers are not cancer and usually do not have any problem, but if the cyst has a solid component or it has a septa that increases on the contrast CT scan, then these ulcers are cancer,” said the urologist. He said, while symptoms are generally not noticeable, if a cyst becomes quite large, you can experience these symptoms:
- Abdominal pain: A cyst is characterized by sluggish pain in the edge, back or upper abdomen. It can come or feel like pressure rather than sharp pain.
- Feverish: An infected cyst presents itself with fever, chills, or even high blood pressure if the renal function is affected.
- Urination pattern changes: Ulcers can press on the urinary tract, so that you can urinate more often. You can also experience a burning sensation while urinating. Also read To look out for renal stones signs, prevention and treatment tips

What is kidney tumor?
“Kidney tumor is an abnormal growth of tissue arising from the kidney. In most cases, the kidney tumor is touching and coincidentally a CT is scanned on ultrasound or for other reasons,” Dr. Sumit Bansal said. The initial warning indications of the kidney tumor are:
- Urine: It is a symptom of an advanced tumor. The urine may appear pink or red. Sometimes, blood cannot be visible to the naked eyes.
- Sides or lower back pain: If the tumor gets bigger and presses on the surrounding tissues, then there may be frequent pain. People can also see a lump in the area of the stomach.
- Unexplained weight loss: In the case of kidney tumors, sudden and unexplained weight loss often occurs with fatigue, anemia and fever
Spotting differences:
- Ulcers are usually non-cancer, while solid tumors are usually fatal.
- The ulcers gently grow and do not interfere with the surrounding tissue. Conversely, cancerous tumors grow aggressively and can even spread to the surrounding tissues. Also read Kidney failure: Why the top causes occur; Symptoms of warning
- Ulcers do not require any treatment until the symptoms are clear, but the tumor may require extensive treatment in the form of surgery, such as radical or partial nephretomy (kidney or its part removal), which is often required for tumors.
