For the first time after Russia 2020, RIC i.e. Russia is trying to revive the troyka of Russia-India-China. Speaking at a security conference in Parm city on May 29, Russian External Affairs Minister Sergei Lavarov said that the time has come to resume RIC meetings.
For the past several years, the discussion of multi -polar system in international politics has intensified, in which Russia and China together are trying to balance western countries and especially American dominance. The matter of resumption of this troyka of Russia, India and China is being considered a part of this link. This is also an indication that a new movement has started on the map of global diplomacy.
What is Ric and when did it come into existence?
The concept of RIC was given in the late 1990s by former Prime Minister of Russia Yevageni Primkov. Its aim was to create a platform that could balance the unique global system of America and Western countries. This group of three countries held minister-level meetings more than 20 times from 2002 to 2020. Apart from foreign policy, there was an attempt to coordinate economic, business and security matters.
However, the platform was almost inactive after the Galwan Valley Struggle on the Indo-China border in 2020.
Why is RIC rebuilt now emphasizes?
After a talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the BRICS conference held in Kazan in October 2024, steps have been taken towards reducing tension on the border. Russia wants to re -activate Ric by making this atmosphere the basis.

Russia openly assumes that Western alliances like NATO and quad are spreading instability in Asia. Lavrov alleged that NATO is trying to drag India into an anti -China strategy. Russia’s long-term agenda is to create a security framework that does not have dependence on America-enemy institutions. RIC stands up again will promote the possibility of multi -polar balance in Eurasia.
Why will America be restless?
America considers India a major pillar of its Indo-Pacific plan. If India plays an active role in RIC, then it would be an indication that India is no longer dependent on the West.

The revival of RIC will give a diplomatic platform to the already deep relations between China and Russia, which will challenge for American policy-makers.
Spast of quad and indo-Pacific strategy
If India enhances dialogue and cooperation with China and Russia through RIC, it can put a question mark on the effectiveness of the quad. Because India cannot be seen sitting in both the court together.
However, this path is not so easy for India. On the one hand he wants to maintain a strong relationship with Quad and America. On the other hand, his participation in forums like RIC is part of his strategic balance policy. Also, the Indo-China border dispute is not completely resolved, which can affect RIC’s credibility.
Rebuating Ric is not just a symbolic effort, but it is part of the long -term strategy of Russia in which it wants to make Eurasia the center of the multi -polar world, free from western dominance. If the improvement in India-China relations is permanent and the three countries focus on shared interests by keeping their differences behind, then RIC can become a strategic headache for America.
RIC can again be the foundation of the multi -polar world system, which was imagined by Praimakov – and the same thing makes America the most restless.
