Realizing its historical importance, he sent Lincoln University to investigate it.

The university investigation also revealed that the bottle was filled with urine. Experts believe that it is a rare bottle, which was used to drive away evil spirits. This bottle was found last year. The workers were digging the gap in a property on the C View Street, when they got this bottle. The bottle has created curiosity among the people about the history of the area.

Where was the investigation?
Jara Yets, a third year student of Lincoln University, examined the bottle using several techniques including XRF Analysis and Multisactral Imaging. The bottle is still with its original cork and is filled with liquid. It is rare to find such an old artwork. The multisactral imagers revealed that the liquid inside was mainly urine. It also had a small amount of rotten material of plants. The design of Botal shows that it was made by hand.

Way to drive away ghosts
Zara Yets said that the use of molds started in 1840 to make bottles. In such a situation, this bottle should be before that date. He also discovered that the bottle size was introduced in 1790. Experts believe that this is a ‘Witch Botal’, in which urine is full. It is believed that it was buried to drive away evil spirits. The same custom was also in East Anglia. Zara said, “People used to fill urine in bottles and place it on the door of the house, so that the witchcraft would not have an effect.”

What used to be used for 200 earlier?
There is also a possibility that the bottle reflects a different practice prevalent among the sailors. The sailors used to press a bottle filled with urine at their home for a safe return from their maritime trips. This was his superstition. To find out whether there is something in the bottle that shows that it is ‘Witch Botal’, Zara did X-rays on it. He was surprised that there was no big thing in the bottle. It was just liquid with a very small amount of sediment. Jara said, ‘It is very uncommon to find such an old bottle and to have so much liquid in it. We believe that it is probably 200 years old on average. In such a situation, it is a very unique thing to be liquid in it even after 200 years. This artwork will be displayed at the university in June. The bottle, which was buried about 200 years ago, will eventually be returned to the owner of the property.
