Myntra Refund Scam: Flipkart’s fashion based e-commerce website Myntra has become the victim of a big scam. This scam was carried out by taking advantage of the return policy of the company, due to which the company suffered a loss of about Rs 50 crore. This matter came to light during the audit of Myntra.
Scammers misused Myntra’s return policy. These fraudsters used to place orders for expensive items like branded shoes, clothes and accessories on a large scale. After delivery of the order, these people used to lodge fake complaints. Complaints claimed delivery of less items, receiving the wrong product or the product not being delivered. As per Myntra’s policy, the refund process starts once the complaint is filed. Taking advantage of this, scammers used to claim refund.
How big was the loss?
According to reports, Myntra has suffered a loss of Rs 50 crore due to this scam across the country. In Bengaluru alone, the company has tracked 5,529 fake orders.
As an example, if a person ordered 10 branded shoes and after delivery claimed that he had received only 5 shoes, he could claim a refund of the remaining 5 shoes.
Location and method of fraud
According to reports, most of the orders of this scam were placed from Jaipur, Rajasthan. However, delivery addresses were given in Bengaluru and other big cities. Fraudsters used locations like tea shops, tailor shops and stationery shops for delivery.
Meesho also became a victim of scam
This is not the first time that e-commerce companies have become victims of such fraud. Some time ago, a similar scam happened with Meesho also. The thugs caused a loss of Rs 5.5 crore to the company. In this case, the police had arrested three accused from Surat, Gujarat.
