principal The headmaster of a government school in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Seethamaraju district was suspended on Tuesday for allegedly cutting the hair of some girl students for coming late to school.
The incident took place at the girls’ residential Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV). School At G Madugula in Alluri Seetharamaraju district.
State project director of holistic education B Srinivas Rao said the recent incident came to light on Monday, following which the department initiated an inquiry against principal U Sai Prasanna.
“Yesterday (Monday) we conducted an investigation and late night (Monday) the collector issued suspension orders,” Rao said.
The investigation led by the District Education Officer (DEO) and the Girls Child Development Officer resulted in disciplinary proceedings against Principal Prasanna.
“The Principal (Prasanna) has admitted to taking action of cutting hair/excess hair of some students. Therefore, prima facie the allegation has been proved beyond doubt,” the suspension order said.
Tribal student of Madhya Pradesh dies by suicide
In a separate incident, a Class 12 tribal student in Madhya Pradesh committed suicide after he was scolded for using a mobile phone to take selfies on the school premises.
Raj Osari, a 17-year-old student of a government higher secondary school in Gulwad in the Mandleshwar region, jumped from the Jam Gate, a historical site in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone district, on November 8.
“Raj jumped from the jam gate and was then found in a ditch. When he was trying to jump, his relatives and the security guards posted at the site forbade him from doing so, but he did not listen to them and took the step,” said Khargone district superintendent of police Dharamraj Meena.
Osari, a resident of Kakad Khodri village, lived in a government hostel. Meena said that he was taken to a government hospital in Mandaleshwar, where doctors declared him dead.
