He said that he wanted a father-son relationship with his son Ranbir and not a friendship. Rishi Kapoor had also revealed why he never had a friendly relationship with his son Ranbir Kapoor.
In 2015, on ‘The Anupam Kher Show: Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai 2’, Rishi Kapoor talked about his relationship with his son Ranbir. He said, ‘I know that there are many parents in this film industry who treat their children like friends. My relationship with my father was never like this. I deliberately did not maintain this relationship with my son. Maybe there is a glass wall between us.’
I am your father, not your friend
He further said, ‘We can see, but we cannot feel each other. Maybe. I want you to give me that position that I am your elder, I am your father, I am not your friend.’ When Rishi Kapoor was asked why he thinks so, the actor replied, ‘Because maybe I saw my father with Dada. My father did the same to me.’
‘Respect your elders’
Rishi Kapoor further said, ‘When you asked what did you give to Ranbir? I have given this to Ranbir that you should respect your elders and do whatever you want in your life, but this wall that we have built, I want it to remain like this.’
