Arvind Kejriwal’s birthday today: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia will begin his padyatra in the national capital on August 16 to mark the birthday of jailed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Sisodia, who is out on bail in the Delhi liquor policy case, will start the march from DDA flats in Kalkaji in Greater Kailash constituency at 6.30 pm, an AAP spokesperson said. The march will start from Kalkaji MLA Atishi’s office.
This march is one of the outreach programmes planned by the AAP ahead of next year’s Delhi Assembly Elections, 2025. The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP had swept the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections by winning 62 out of 70 seats. The AAP had also won the 2025 elections by winning 67 out of 70 seats.
Today, we don’t just celebrate a person – we celebrate an event. @ArvindKejriwalYou have shown that honesty and service can be the core of politics.
You are a freedom fighter for modern India, who was unjustly imprisoned like those before you. But as history shows, the truth always prevails… pic.twitter.com/Kv1WqOmjrA

Earlier, Sisodia told news agency ANI that the decision to march on foot in each of Delhi’s 70 assembly constituencies was taken after discussions with party leaders. He said, “My role in the party is decided after discussions with party leaders, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal decides it. Now after discussions with party leaders, it has been decided that I will go among the people in every street. I will do a padyatra (foot march).”
On August 9, the Supreme Court granted bail to Sisodia in both the ED and CBI cases related to the Delhi Excise Policy scam. Sisodia remained in jail for 17 months. On August 14, the Supreme Court refused to grant interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal in the CBI corruption case related to the alleged Delhi Liquor Policy scam.
The Delhi Excise Policy was scrapped in 2022 after a CBI probe was ordered by the Delhi Lieutenant Governor that probed alleged irregularities and corruption in the formulation and implementation of the policy.
The CBI and ED have claimed that irregularities took place in amending the excise policy and undue benefits were given to the license holders.
