The sanctity of examination centres in Bihar is being questioned afresh, as a viral reel from an exam centre by a student has sparked outrage. In a bizarre incident at a college affiliated to Lalit Narayan Mithila University, a student named Nirjala filmed a 14-second video during her graduation part 2 exam and shared it on Instagram, which garnered over 2 lakh views within 24 hours. The incident has raised serious concerns about the exam conduct protocols at the university. Despite assurances from authorities about fair exams, students in Begusarai district have faced lax surveillance, openly using mobile phones and even creating content on social media during exams.
Speaking to reporters, students highlighted the huge difference in supervision between secondary and higher exams, stressing that matriculation exams have strict scrutiny but university exams are largely unregulated. This lax supervision has turned exam centres into “entertainment centres”, some students lamented.
This is not the first time such malpractices have been reported in Begusarai. Last year too, students were found clicking pictures of question papers and sharing them on WhatsApp for answers, leading to constant challenges in maintaining the sanctity of exams in the region.
The controversy has rekindled demands for strict enforcement of examination rules to restore credibility and fairness in academic assessment in Bihar.
