After a stampede at a satsang in Hathras claimed the lives of over 120 people, self-styled godman AP Singh’s lawyer has alleged a “conspiracy” and claimed “poison was sprayed” causing the women to fall and die.
In this tragic incident that took place on July 2 in Uttar Pradesh, 121 people, including 112 women and seven children, were killed. 35 people were also injured.
Speaking to news agency PTI, Singh claimed that 15-16 people were involved in the conspiracy of this “heartbreaking incident”
“10-12 people sprayed the poison. Eyewitnesses said women were falling and many died due to suffocation,” he said.
Singh also alleged that permission was taken for the satsang of Bhole Baba and a map was also attached with the permission.
According to the initial police report, Bhole Baba had permission for the gathering of only 80,000 people, however, around 2,50,000 devotees gathered at the satsang venue.
“Some unidentified vehicles were present at the stampede spot. They fled from the spot,” Singh claimed.
Bhole Baba’s lawyer said that CCTV footage should be seized from the venue so that those vehicles can be identified. “It was all planned.”
On Saturday, two people, including prime accused Devprakash Madhukar, were sent to judicial custody in connection with the stampede.
According to officials, Madhukar used to raise funds and collect donations for the programmes of self-styled Baba Surajpal alias Narayan Saker Hari alias Bhole Baba.
According to initial investigations, the stampede occurred when devotees were trying to seek blessings and collect soil near the preacher’s feet. Security personnel intervened to prevent this, leading to chaos and jostling among the crowd, causing several people to fall and leading to a stampede.
A three-member judicial inquiry commission headed by Justice (Retd.) Brijesh Kumar Srivastava has been constituted to conduct a thorough investigation into the recent stampede incident. The aim of the commission is to ensure transparency and comprehensiveness in its investigation process.
