There have been allegations of question paper leaks in states like Bihar and other irregularities in this prestigious exam. These allegations have led to protests in several cities and petitions have been filed in several High Courts as well as the Supreme Court.
A senior ministry official said, “A detailed report has been sought from the Economic Offences Wing of Bihar Police regarding the alleged irregularities in the conduct of the examination in Patna. The government will take further action after receiving the report.”
“The government is committed to ensuring the sanctity of examinations and protecting the interests of students. It is reiterated that strict action will be taken against any individual or organisation found involved in this matter,” the official said.
Noting that students have to work hard to prepare for these exams, the apex court has said that the litigation relating to the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate)-2024 should not be treated as adversarial.
The Centre and the National Examination Agency told the apex court on June 13 that they have cancelled the grace marks given to 1,563 candidates who took the examination for admission to MBBS and other such courses.
The Centre had said that candidates would have the option to either re-appear for the exam or forgo the compensation marks allotted to them for loss of time.
The exam was held on May 5 at 4,750 centres and around 24 lakh candidates appeared for it. The results were expected to be declared on June 14, but were announced on June 4 as the evaluation of answer sheets had already been completed.
