The Rajasthan government has announced its plan to distribute free tablets to students who have scored more than 75 per cent marks in Class 8, 10 and 12 board exams in government schools in the last two years. According to reports, a total of 55,727 students are expected to receive tablets.
Along with the tablet, the students will also be provided a SIM card by the government for free internet facility. The education department has planned to buy 55,800 SIM cards in the first phase to provide SIM cards to government school students. Through this SIM card, children will get 1 GB of free data every day for three years.
Till now, the state government used to provide tablets only to the students who performed best in the 8th, 10th and 12th class examinations of the state, but now the department will also provide three years of internet along with the tablet. The aim of the scheme is to promote online education.
According to the report, the government has started this scheme with a budget of Rs 18 crore. According to the education department, the process of purchasing SIM cards will be completed by the end of this month. From the upcoming session, students will get tablet and internet facility for free. They will be able to enjoy its service for three years. Under this, one GB data will be available every day i.e. 30 GB data every month and if it is not useful, then this data will be added next month.
A total of 27,866 students meet the criteria to receive tablets every year during the academic years 2022 and 2023, but were not given tablets reportedly due to financial constraints. Of these, 1,254 students are from Udaipur. The initiative to distribute tablets pending from the last term has started again under the leadership of CM Bhajanlal Sharma. Deputy Director of Education Sunita Chawla issued the order with the list of eligible students. District Education Officers have been entrusted with the task of verifying the academic achievements of students in their districts. The verification report is sent to the Directorate within seven days, on the basis of which tablets are distributed to eligible students.
