New Delhi. Indian-origin researcher Ankur Gupta and his team have discovered a new technology through which an electric car can be charged in 10 minutes and a dead laptop or phone in one minute. In a study published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers discovered how tiny charged particles called ions move within a complex network of microscopic pores.
Gupta, assistant professor of chemical and biological engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder in the US, said, “This success could lead to the development of more efficient energy storage devices such as supercapacitors.”

Gupta said, “This new discovery is important not only for energy storage in vehicles and electronic devices but also for power grids. Where fluctuations in energy demand require saving time and speed delivery during high demand. Supercapacitors, energy storage devices depend on ion collection in their pores. They have faster charging time and longer life than batteries.”

The researchers said that this discovery increases the flow of ions in the battery in a complex network of thousands of interconnected holes in minutes.
