The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India against the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over Friday’s raids on two premises of an alleged associate of Sandeshkhali accused Shahjahan Shaikh. The Mamata Banerjee-led party has alleged that the central agency’s action is aimed at tarnishing the party’s image amid the ongoing 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The CBI on Friday said it has recovered arms and ammunition while raiding several places in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal in connection with the attack on an Enforcement Directorate team by a mob allegedly instigated by former TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan. – Which also includes foreign made pistols. , A team of National Security Guard (NSG) commandos was also deployed in the area.

“In West Bengal, voters were to cast their votes in three parliamentary constituencies, which are Darjeeling, Raiganj and Balurghat. When the elections were going on, the CBI deliberately and dishonestly conducted a raid at a vacant lot in Sandeshkhali. Media reports reveal TMC’s letter addressed to the Chief Electoral Officer said, “The CBI has called in additional forces, including the bomb squad of the National Security Guard (NSG). It is also reported that arms and ammunition have been recovered from a house during such raid.” West Bengal, with a copy to the Chief Election Commissioner, Election Commission of India.
The TMC complaint said the central agency had not informed the local police about the raid on the day of polling for the second phase of the general elections. In this, the Bharatiya Janata Party government at the Center was accused of conspiring with the CBI and the National Security Guard (NSG).
“It is reiterated that in the absence of any representative of the State Government, the alleged recovery of arms and ammunition is possibly a ploy planned by the BJP in conspiracy with the CBI and NSG to plant such weapons at the site,” it reads. Complaint.

The complaint also alleged that the raids are further evidence that the BJP has weaponized the central investigative agencies, including the CBI, to run a defamation campaign against the TMC, which will help in swaying the voter mindset in its favor. .
The Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government has moved the Supreme Court challenging the Calcutta High Court’s decision directing a CBI probe into allegations of land grab and sexual harassment in Sandeshkhali. This case will be heard by the Supreme Court bench of Justice BR Gavai and Sandeep Mehta on April 29.
